According to EFE, Spain’s Minister of Sport Pilar Alegría (Milagros Tolón) stated on Tuesday that the government will “work hard” to ensure the 2030 World Cup final is held in Spain.
Speaking at a Senate committee on education, vocational training, and sport, Tolón said the government does not ultimately decide the final’s location, but added that if it were up to her, “of course it would be in Spain.” She reiterated that authorities will make every effort to bring the final to Spanish soil.
She highlighted that hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup represents a major opportunity for Spanish sport. An inter-ministerial committee meeting was held on March 5, forming eight working groups covering key areas such as legal frameworks, security, stadiums, infrastructure, accommodation, sports operations, transport, technology, and communications. Tolón stressed that institutional coordination is crucial, noting that the working groups were recommended by FIFA, with both sides maintaining close cooperation.
Spain, Portugal, and Morocco will jointly host the 2030 tournament, while Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay will stage opening matches in their respective nations to commemorate the centenary of the first World Cup held in Montevideo in 1930.
